Mandalorians were humans from the planet of Mandalore and its surrounding systems.
History[]
In the days of the Old Republic, the Mandalorians were known to be aggressive, leading to a massive war between both factions. The Jedi then joined the battle, although the conflict toppled the Old Republic. It was during this war when an ancestor of Pre Vizsla, a member of House Vizsla's house, stole the Darksaber from the Jedi Temple. The Darksaber was originally crafted and wielded by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian ever to become part of the Jedi Order. In the years prior to the Clone Wars, the Mandalorians would enthrall themselves in a series of wars, known as the Mandalorian Civil Wars. It was during this series of wars, that the future clone template, Jango Fett, would be adopted into the ranks of the Mandalorians as a foundling and become a veteran of these wars.
Eventually the Mandalorians let go of their warlike ways and developed a code of pacifism, although the "Death Watch", a Mandalorian terrorist cell, disagreed with the culture's new direction. Meanwhile, Jango would be hired by Darth Tyranus (better known as Count Dooku) to become the clone template for the Grand Army of the Republic. Dutchess Satine, the New Mandalorian leader, was later killed by Darth Maul when he took command of Death Watch, plunging Mandalore into yet another Civil War. Following the Clone Wars, many of the Mandalorians surrendered to the Galactic Empire when Mandalore became occupied by Imperial forces. The Empire then proceeded to construct an academy on the planet's surface. Despite Imperial rule, however, independent clans remained, including the Protectors of Concord Dawn, who were enemies of the pro-Imperial Clan Saxon.
Clan Wren would later be forced into cooperation with Clan Saxon after a weapon developed by Sabine was used against the Mandalorian people and Sabine fled Mandalore after standing against the Empire only to find herself with no support. Left in disgrace by this action, her family was disdained by the other clans, with her father being held captive by Gar Saxon while her brother Tristan was forced to join the Imperial Super Commandos. The Protectors of Concord Dawn were also opposed to the Empire, but grudgingly cooperated with them in order to maintain their independence. This would later come to an end after Fenn Rau, leader of the Protectors, was abducted by Phoenix Squadron, whom he then allowed to pass through Concord Dawn unopposed. However, the Empire eventually learned of this, and after allowing it to continue for some time dispatched Gar Saxon and his Commandos to wipe out Rau's men.
This act would later push Rau into the Rebel camp, and after the Darksaber was recovered from Dathomir he pushed Sabine to use it to sway her clan into joining the fight against the Empire. The ensuing confrontation between Clan Wren and Imperial forces resulted in Gar Saxon's death and the start of the next Mandalorian Civil War, in which Clan Wren found itself facing Clan Saxon. Clan Kryze, under the leadership of Bo-Katan, would eventually join in the fight to free Mandalore and Sabine would give the Darksaber to Bo-Katan to rule as Mand'alor. However, soon after, The Empire would gain the upper hand and the Darksaber was taken by ISB Agent Moff Gideon, who would send the Mandalorians, including Bo-Katan, into a diaspora. This event would come to be known as the Great Purge of Mandalore and caused a Mandalorian religious group known as the Children of the Watch to believe that Mandalore was now cursed.
Meanwhile, Jango's son, Boba, would make a name for himself as a bounty hunter and eventually, the leader of Tatooine, making the Mandalorian legacy even more feared throughout the galaxy.
Culture[]
Mandalorian warriors typically wore very distinctive battle armor, a jet-pack, and a helmet with a T-shaped visor. They carried and used many different types of weapons and explosives, such as the WESTAR-35. Due to their many Clans, Mandalorians were known to have allied with both the Sith and Jedi, such as the Death Watch and the Protectors. The Mandalorians also have their own language, Mando'a. Although not shown in the series, the Mandalorians also adopted orphans from war ravaged planets they were on for missions or even on the battlefield. These orphans would come to be called Foundlings and would be taught in the ways of the Mandalorians. One such Mandalorian would be the bounty hunter Jango Fett, who was from the planet Concord Dawn and would fight in the Mandalorian Civil Wars prior to the Clone Wars.
