Lothal was a planet located in the Outer Rim Territories. The planet was home to Capital City, which eventually became a battleground between the Galactic Empire and a small band of rebels.

The planet's economy was largely based around its vast assortment of minerals, which came from its unique rock formations.

Settlements[]

Capital City[]

The city center of all trade on Lothal, Capital City hosted the Imperial Command Center, government facilities, and an Imperial Academy used to train aspiring Stormtroopers.

Kothal[]

Kothal was a trading-affiliated settlement, comprised mostly of vendors. Following the Imperials' arrival on the planet, the settlement was frequently visited by Imperial Troop Transports, which would carry supplies in and out of the village.

Jhothal[]

Located far from Capital City, Jhothal was a small village. Located at the heart of the settlement was Old Jho's Pit Stop, a cantina. After Lothal was placed in a full lockdown, Old Jho was killed and his cantina was now the property of Valen Rudor.

History[]

Oppression under the Empire[]

Following the rise of the Galactic Empire, Capital City entered a state of economic despair. The planet's inhabitants invited the Empire, on the promise of prosperity and security. Following its takeover, the Empire largely restricted the planet's inhabitants, occupations were limited, with the only options being to join the stormtrooper corps, enlist in Imperial pilot flight school, or work in the capital's Sienar Fleet Systems factory, building TIE Fighters. In addition to these restrictions, the Empire began to replace farms with factories, polluting the planet.

The Empire also managed to gain intel on the planet's inhabitants, through the "Citizen Registration Program", where citizens would be offered a job in exchange for said person's personal info.

Needless to say, a rebellion began to grow, as the local inhabitants grew unsatisfied with the Empire's practices. Among the most prominent to speak out were Ephraim Bridger and his wife Mira, who used pirate hyperspace transmissions to encourage resistance to the Empire. The pair were supported by Ryder Azadi, the Governor of Lothal at that time; unfortunately all three were imprisoned as a result, and Azadi was replaced by Arihnda Pryce. According to Prime Minister Maketh Tua, the Empire had additional motivation for occupying Lothal beyond what was publicly known.

Rebel Target[]

After establishing themselves on Atollon, Phoenix Squadron set their sights on establishing a strike fleet in order to strike at the Imperial factory on Lothal.

Lockdown[]

The planet was later placed under full lockdown. Jho was killed and his bar was taken over by the Empire. The planet was also subject to orbital bombardment, killing millions of beings.

Attack on Lothal[]

The Attack on Lothal was finally approved by the Rebel Alliance leader Mon Mothma. A squadron of X-Wing Starfighters was sent to attack the Imperial blockade. They squeezed through and took out the professional Imperial pilot Vult Skerris. The X-Wings began to descend towards Capital City to hit the Fuel Depot, all of the fighters were then destroyed by a wave of TIE Fighters. The operation was a failure however shortly after the attack. The fuel depot exploded due to a shot from an AT-AT, the explosion engulfed the depot however it also took the life of Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus who sacrificed himself to ensure his friends Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren make it to safety. In the aftermath of the destruction, the TIE Defender factory was shut down due to damage from the explosion. Setting a victory for the Rebel Alliance.

Mystical Secret of the Jedi Temple[]

Guided by the reappearing Loth-Wolfs, one giant wolf tells Ezra Bridger that the Lothal Jedi Temple was in danger from the clutches of the Empire. The Spectres launch a mission to infiltrate the Imperial and Mining Guild occupied territory. An Imperial who was in charge of the excavation, Minister Veris Hydan found a mural that contained the art of the Father, Daughter and the Son. Knowing that the key was the mural, Ezra and Sabine activated the mural which made the paintings move and the wolves in the art began to show Ezra where to go. The wolves then begin to run in a circle, creating the portal to the World Between Worlds, the conduit between the living and the dead. Emperor Palpatine had plans to use the mystical place however it was permanently derailed when Ezra knocked the Temple down, killing everyone besides the Spectres and burying the Temple.

Liberation[]

With the success of the Rebellion on destroying the fuel depot for the Imperial TIEs. The first stage to getting rid of the Empire was initiated. Ryder Azadi lured Arihnda Pryce to the Lothal Resistance base located in the southern hemisphere of Lothal. Now that Pryce and several Imperials are captured, they head to the Imperial Dome located in the center of Capital City. Pryce uses a clearance code under orders of Alexsandr Kallus to land without any problems. The Rebels move through the hangar and took it over, with Imperial Command realizing an attack, they send troopers to attack. With the command center of the Dome under Rebel control, they initiate Protocol 13, the evacuation of Imperial personnel of the planet. The Dome is now closed with every trooper, pilot and officer trapped inside but then Thrawn arrives in his Star Destroyer, the Chimaera, orders the Rebels to stand down otherwise he will bombard civilians of Lothal. The city is under panic from the bombardments, causing major casualties and destruction. Ezra Bridger surrenders and goes to meet Thrawn. Later on, the Purrgil arrive as Plan B because of Thrawn's arrival. The Purrgil destroyed the blockade, the other Star Destroyers and caused major damage to the Chimaera, The Purrgil then take Ezra and Thrawn who are inside the Chimaera to an unknown place by jumping into hyperspace. With the Imperial Star Destroyers gone, the Rebels initiate the thrusters of the Dome and it begins to fly over the ocean. Sabine detonates the explosives inside it and the explosion kills everyone in it including Governor Pryce. The rest of the Imperials still on the ground were then detained by the civilians of Lothal.

Epilogue[]

Lothal was freed from Imperial control and was restored to its pre-empire days, there is no more pollution and the grass was growing again. With the decisive victory of the Battle of Endor, the Empire was fractured and it was guaranteed to the Rebels that the Empire's chances of retaking it were really small now.

Behind the scenes[]

After StarWars.com's reveal of the planet Lothal and its Sienar factory, a website called www.sienarfleetsystems.com was launched. It consists of only an image, presented as an advert/propaganda poster for Sienar Fleet Systems on Lothal. This image was later changed, to one covered in graffiti.
