Liberator was a blockade runner commanded by Jun Sato. After his original capital ship was destroyed, he transferred his command to the Liberator and she served as the official Phoenix Home. It was used as part of a rebel cell to fight against the Galactic Empire.

The Liberator was a Alderaan Cruiser that was part of the Phoenix Squadron. After an attack on the Rebel Fleet by Darth Vader, who destroyed the command ship Phoenix Home, Sato transferred his command to the Liberator. To distinguish her from the other cruisers in the fleet, the Liberator was given a blue paint job that almost entirely covered her hull. At some point during the conflict, the Liberator was transporting Commander Sato and Ezra Bridger, who were investigating the disappearance of a rebel patrol in the Del Zennis System when it was pulled out of hyperspace by an Imperial Interdictor. Caught completely by surprise, Sato was able to send a distress call before the Liberator lost power.

Following the capture of the Liberator and her crew, Hera Syndulla sent Kanan Jarrus, Captain Rex, and C1-10P to rescue the ship's crew and Ezra. The rebels succeeded in rescuing Ezra along with Sato and his crew. They also succeeded in sabotaging the Interdictor's gravity well projectors; causing the ship to explode. The Liberator and her passengers then escaped into hyperspace where they rejoined the fleet.

The Liberator and the rest of the rebels also hid within the spaceports of Garel. After the Empire discovered the rebel presence on Garel, the Liberator and the rest of the rebels braved the Imperial blockade to escape into space, though one of her Taylander Shuttles was lost to enemy fire. While attempting to escape Garel, the Liberator was caught in the tractor beam of the Relentless. However, Hera managed to free the Liberator by ramming the Ghost into the Star Destroyer's tractor beam projector; allowing Sato and his crew along with Rex to escape into hyperspace.

The Liberator's conference room later hosted a meeting between Sato, Rex, and the Ghost Crew to discuss their options for opening a new hyperspace route into the Lothal Sector. During the meeting, the rebels decided to send a diplomatic mission to seek permission from The Protectors, a Mandalorian faction, to allow them safe passage through the Concord Dawn System. This mission was headed by Hera. However, Hera's mission was attacked above Concord Dawn by Protectors, whose leader Fenn Rau had sided with the Empire. Following the failed mission, Hera was treated by a 2-1B Surgical Droid in the Liberator's medical bay.

The Liberator's conference room hosted a debriefing attended by the rebels, sans Hera. During that meeting, the rebels decided to send a sabotage mission headed by Kanan to destroy the Protectors' Fang Fighters, which were housed in a base on Concord Dawn's Third Moon. This mission succeeded in destroying the Protectors' starfighters there and capturing Rau, who agreed to allow the rebels safe passage through the Concord Dawn System in return for keeping his capture a secret from the Empire.

The Liberator was replaced as Phoenix Home soon after by an Imperial Light Carrier, stolen from the Empire over Ryloth, though she continued to serve as a valuable asset in the conflict. She was used by Commander Sato to rescue his nephew, Mart Mattin, after his ship was damaged by the Empire, personally destroying a Gozanti cruiser and heavily damaging Admiral Kassius Konstantine's light cruiser before retreating into hyperspace.

Later, the Liberator participated in the Battle of Atollon and was the only blockade runner of Phoenix Squadron to survive. She, along with the other remaining cruisers of the squadron, then transferred to the Massassi Group at Yavin 4.

  • In "Stealth Strike", Sato calls the Liberator by the name of his former command ship, Phoenix Home. It is assumed that he used the name simply as a callsign in this instance.
