The Jedi Temple on Coruscant was the home of the Jedi before Order 66. It is currently the Imperial Palace, having been taken over after the rise of the Galactic Empire.
History[]
The Jedi Temple stood for untold generations as the headquarters of the Jedi Order, though satellite temples such as those found on Ilum and Lothal were also known to exist. In more recent history Anakin Skywalker was brought here by Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi to be tested by the Masters of the Jedi Council, including Yoda and Mace Windu. Though they initially opposed his training due to his age, they later relented due to the belief that Anakin was in fact the Chosen One, destined to bring balance to The Force. Roughly ten years later, the Council would meet with Anakin and Obi-Wan here to assign them missions for the protection of Senator Amidala of Naboo and to investigate the recent attempts on her life. Following the Battle of Geonosis, Obi-Wan would return here and consult with the Jedi Council regarding the beginning of the Clone Wars.
Obi-Wan and Anakin later returned to the temple after supposedly rescuing Sheev Palpatine from the clutches of General Grievous, Obi-Wan having become a member of the Jedi Council in the interim. Palpatine subsequently appointed Anakin as his personal representative on the Council, but they refused to give him the rank of Jedi Master. Mace Windu later led the Jedi Masters Kit Fisto, Saesee Tiin, and Agen Kolar from here in order to arrest Palpatine; Anakin, now the Sith Apprentice Darth Vader, subsequently returned here with the 501st Legion of Clone Troopers as part of Order 66. With the Jedi Order all but eliminated, Yoda and Obi-Wan would return here to disable the Jedi recall beacon, with Obi-Wan sending a message to all surviving Jedi which was later recorded by Kanan Jarrus. Some time later, Palpatine-now Emperor of the Galactic Empire-took it as his palace.
