Jai Kell was a Cadet training at the Imperial Academy on Lothal to become a Stormtrooper, until he was encouraged by his friends, Ezra and Zare, to leave.

Escaping the Academy

Jai was one of top cadets at the Academy and while there, he became good friends with Zare Leonis and Ezra Bridger, who was an undercover rebel.

After Ezra succeeded in sneaking into Imperial Headquarters to steal an Imperial encoder, he overheard that The Inquisitor intended to take Kell into custody. Bridger, with the help of Zare Leonis, rescued Kell, and the three hijacked an AT-DP Walker to fight their way out of the Academy. The rebels then returned him to his mother, and they both went into hiding from the Empire.
