EXD-9 was an Imperial Infiltrator Droid who served the Galactic Empire as a recon droid. Disguised as a Protocol Droid, EXD-9 was capable of converting to combat mode and was armed with built-in blasters, and traveled in a Tactical Infiltration Pod. As one of numerous Infiltrators dispatched by Grand Admiral Thrawn, EXD-9 stumbled upon Chopper Base on Atollon, and after a brief memory loss began hunting various droids. After being stopped by Garazeb Orrelios, AP-5, and C1-10P, it was reprogrammed and sent back to the Imperial Star Destroyer from which it had been deployed, at which point its internal explosive device activated and destroyed the ship.

• EXD-9's Protocol Droid appearance is based on Ralph McQuarrie's concept art for C-3PO, while its combat mode resembles the first phase of the Dark Troopers, which also inspired the Imperial Sentry Droids.
